Niigata City is a port town on the mouth of Japan’s longest river, the Shinano River. The city has a population of more than 800,000 people, and is the largest city on the Sea of Japan coast. Because of the good soil, Niigata is known as the number one rice-growing area in Japan. Niigata City produces the most cut tulips and tulip bulbs nationwide.
